Forelsket

I know when you are with somebody, they are supposed to make you happy,

so incredibly happy that you feel like flying

but when you smile

I forget everything I was going to say and I feel my cheeks tighten as your smile is instantly contagious.

The way you look at me makes me feel so whole

like the chaotic hurricane within me has calmed and the grenade has stopped ticking, even for just a moment.

Your laugh mends all of the frayed ropes and ribbons in my lungs and the way your eyes crinkle ties those healed ribbons and ropes into bows.

“Happy” is such a frail, flimsy word compared to the way my heart becomes a bass line when I hear your simple name.
